The report of the European Commission Digital Competitiveness published these days, shows that since 2005 the digital sector in Europe has made considerable progress: today 56% of Europeans regularly use Internet and 80% regular users ha un collegamento ad alta velocità, facendo così dell’Europa il numero uno mondiale per quanto riguarda l’uso di Internet a banda larga. L’Europa è il primo continente al mondo realmente mobile, dal momento che conta più abbonati a servizi mobili che cittadini (il tasso di utilizzo è del 119%). L’Europa può spingersi anche oltre, visto che una generazione di giovani europei esperti di tecnologie digitali sta assumendo un ruolo di traino del mercato che favorirà la crescita e l’innovazione. Se l’Europa vuole riprendersi in modo sostenibile dalla crisi economica, è essenziale sviluppare il potenziale offerto dall’economia digitale. Le sfide che l’Europa digitale dovrà affrontare in the near future are the subject of a public consultation launched in recent days by the Commission and open until 9 October 2009. This is the first step towards a new European strategy for ICT that the Commission intends to present in 2010 in the context of the next phase of the Lisbon Agenda for growth and jobs.

Forest fires: in 2009 more than the damage already

According to stime del sistema europeo d’informazione sugli incendi forestali sono già 200.000 gli ettari di terreno bruciati nell’Unione europea nel 2009, rispetto a un totale di 180.000 nel 2008. L’ EFFIS tiene costantemente sotto controllo il rischio d’incendio boschivo, attualmente ancora elevato, e ha appena pubblicato la relazione “Incendi boschivi in Europa nel 2008”, che offre una visione d’insieme delle situazioni di pericolo e delle conseguenze degli incendi boschivi in Europa nel 2008. Quest’anno la Spagna e l’Italia sono stati i Paesi maggiormente colpiti a causa delle condizioni meteorologiche particolarmente favorevoli agli incendi registratesi nella seconda metà di luglio, ma anche la Francia e, in misura minore, la Grecia e il Portogallo hanno subito danni significativi. Nel mese di marzo sono avvenuti incendi insoliti in Portogallo e nel nord ovest della Spagna che, favoriti da tempo asciutto e vento forte, hanno bruciato una superficie stimata di circa 25.000 ettari.

Il modo in cui utilizziamo i media sta cambiando: per l'enorme quantità di informazioni disponibili non è più infatti sufficiente saper leggere, scrivere o utilizzare un computer. Conferenza internazionale sulla violenza contro le donne
Roma, 9-10 settembre 2009
Si è tenuta tra il 9 e il 10 settembre alla Farnesina la Conferenza Internazionale sulla Violenza contro le Donne, nell’ambito delle iniziative della Presidenza italiana del G8. Secondo quanto rende noto il dipartimento delle Pari Opportunità in collaborazione con il Ministero degli Affari Esteri , la conferenza è stata incentrata sul tema della violenza sulle donne. La conferenza ha avuto come obiettivo principale quello di dare voce e speranza alle vittime di questo fenomeno diffuso in ogni continente con caratteristiche peculiari a seconda del paese in cui si manifesta. Obiettivo della Conferenza è stato infatti quello di definire una “geopolitica della violenza, differenziata a seconda degli usi e costumi sociali, culturali, politici, e religiosi”.

Info Day Programma Cultura 2009

Grande partecipazione alla giornata informativa Community program on "Culture" (2007-2013), held on 8 September at the Council Chamber of the Province.
The event, organized by the European Policy Centre and the Europe Direct the Province of Pisa, in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the Body, with the participation of many people, demonstrating the considerable interest aroused by 'initiative. Were present administrators and civil servants working in the field of culture, representatives of associations and cultural organizations, universities and various provincial and regional cultural institutions. The meeting was moderated by Dr. Paul Prosperi, Head of the Europe Direct Centre and Director of the Office of Community Politics and International Relations Provincia.La morning session was opened by the Culture of the Province of Pisa, Silvia Pagnini, who stressed the importance of European funding over a period of general economic crisis like the present.
E 'then intervened Ravenni Dr. Gian Bruno, Director of the Culture Sector of the Tuscany Region, who presented the instruments of regional planning in the field of culture.
Following Dr. Elvira Rocca, representative of the 'European Cultural Antenna - Culture Contact Point at the Ministry of Heritage and Culture, explained nel dettaglio le caratteristiche del programma comunitario “Cultura”, definendone le priorità, gli obiettivi ed il calendario, e focalizzando l’attenzione sui prossimi bandi in scadenza il 1° ottobre ed il 1° novembre prossimi, finalizzati al sostegno a progetti culturali e ad organizzazioni attive a livello europeo nel settore della cultura.
Il programma dell’Infoday è stato arricchito dalla presentazione di un caso di successo: il Dott. Luca Biagiotti, della Fondazione Teatro di Pisa, ha illustrato l’esperienza dell’iniziativa “ Prima del Teatro ” cofinanziata nel 2008 proprio dal programma “Cultura”, esponendone gli ottimi risultati ottenuti. On September 17, 2009 will be held in Bologna a seminar entitled "The Small and Medium Enterprises in the 7th RTD Framework Programme: how to get involved and what opportunities for companies and researchers, whose goal is to illustrate the Framework Programme with particular reference to the participation of enterprises, by presenting the structure, rules of participation and life cycle of a proposal from the idea to design the project. At the same time will present opportunities e le modalità di coinvolgimento delle strutture di ricerca.
L'incontro si propone di trasferire contenuti, metodologie ed esempi pratici a chi intende utilizzare il Programma Quadro per finanziare le proprie attività di ricerca e innovazione.

Open Days 2009
Bruxelles, 5-8 ottobre 2009
Dal 5 all’8 ottobre 2009 si svolgerà a Bruxelles la settimana edizione europea degli Open Days organizzata dal Comitato delle Regioni e dalla DG Regio della Commissione Europea . La manifestazione avrà il titolo di "Sfide globali , risposte europee" e vedrà la partecipazione di oltre 7000 esperti insieme ai protagonisti attivi della politica regionale europea.
L'edizione di quest'anno sarà dedicata alle seguenti tematiche: a) Regioni davanti alla crisi economica ; b) Cambiamento climatico; c) Cooperazione between regions and cities; d) The impact and future of European cohesion policy.
There are about 600 speakers which included representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Swedish EU Presidency, mayors, politicians, entrepreneurs and experts from around the world.

Seminar: "Climate change and energy challenges: we start from our city,"
Florence, October 8, 2009
The Europe Direct center of the town of Florence, in collaboration with the Institute of Biometeorology CNR, organize, at the Hall "two hundred" in the Palazzo Vecchio, a seminar entitled "Climate change and energy challenges: we start from our city." During the meeting, which is part of the European project LIFERACES financed by the European Commission will present the educational kit RACES: materials, tools and ideas to address the class issue of climate change. Speakers in the debate for some teachers have other teaching experiences on the issue.
The seminar is open to all teachers in secondary schools, colleges and environmental educators.

European Call for active citizenship
Under the program "Europe for Citizens" - Action 1 , Measure 1.6, is open until 30 September, the call for call for proposal EACEA/15/2009 - Innovative Actions "Active citizens for Europe". The overall aim of the invitation is to test and develop innovative cross-border exchange programs in order to create long-term partnerships between civil society organizations operating in different countries under the program. The total provision amounted to € 1,100,000. Individual grants may not exceed 80% of eligible costs.

European competition for young translators
Registration is now open in the third contest for Juvenes Translatores secondary schools in the European Union. I "Juvenes Translatores" (young translators' in Latin) will be able to try their hand at translating a text in a language of their choice and win a prize. Registration is open until 20 October to all secondary schools that wish to participate. The competition will take place November 24, 2009 and the translations will take place simultaneously in all Member States under the supervision of schools. Participants will have two hours to translate a text that will be sent to schools shortly before the tests. The winners will be invited to an awards ceremony in Brussels, which will attend the European Commissioner for Multilingualism. During their stay, the winners will have the opportunity to get acquainted with each other and to meet EU translators.

actions to protect children using the Internet and media
Under the program, "Safer Internet , is open call for proposals for indirect actions to protect children using the Internet and the technologies of communication. Different actions can be funded: public awareness and fight against illegal content and harmful conduct online, promoting a safer online environment, creating a knowledge base.
